I ended up down on myself and thinking factory work was the way to go, imagine that...Mentally stimulating tasks were always an issue, all the while my ideas and creativity flourish. I have gotten older, some of the fog went away and the stress of mentally stimulating tasks has decreased very much so. But other issues still exist. I am now in college as a non-traditional student in the medical field, took me long enough to feel competent enough to do so... I would LOVE to get in a research environment due to the way my brain works but my inability to absorb technical details that bore me is difficult. I am always thinking up studies I would love to try and drawing connections to things, which to others, they don't see these extreme connections. It is like the wikipedia, i jump from one topic that relates to another and in the end, I wind up elsewhere, sometimes it is relevant to the initial topic but sometimes it is really far away from the topic at hand. A friend told me it is hard to have a conversation, I jump from one thing to the next. It is HARD to focus on just a few things so I can flourish. I think of my brain like a circle around a circle, where the circle inside is more focused (historians, fact type individuals, passionate about what they do) and then me on the outer circle with ideas all over the place but not channeled. Actually, it isn't horrible but it can be very challenging to get a good job being like this in our increasingly specialized society. Most people you encounter are good at a few things and you are constantly feeling inadequate. Anyway, this is how I generally feel. The funny thing also is that although mental tasks can be difficult for me, it is usually because I am too impatient to learn the basics and want to jump to level 2. But on the flip side, in a working environment without mental stimulation, I get bored, my mind wanders and I get accused of being a screw up. It used to make me feel inferior/stupid. Now, I am starting to realize I am smart in a specialized way but it is hard to use this intelligence. In a perfect world, we would be tested for certain mental skills and used in a team based fashion IMO. The one field I see a lot of ADD folks go is the computer field. Funny, because I always had a thing with computers and technology, my best job was a coordinator in which I had a bunch of tasks and had some free time to myself to use my creativity to enhance things. So, ADD seems to be on the rise, allergens the same. I actually think there is a connection, I also do believe dopamine and histamine levels are inversely related (research Tourette syndrome for more information). I even had a thought that computers/technology are changing our brains to be more likely ADD type folks. I went back asking for something different, they gave me adderall but in a lower dose. I can REALLY cope with my problems better and tasks at hand. It saved my marriage. If the first experiance is why people want the drug because they like that feeling, I dont see how anybody could like feeling like that. I think its a bunch of BS for people who get it by lieing, you are the ones that make it hard for people who NEED it to get it like a couple stories I read thru here. I work for the DoD ( department of defense ) 9x outta 10 the only thing they see is my ear piercing. Well I was on wellbutrin, zoloft, ambilify,prozac, ambien , lunest, and currently on trazadome. I am a person who had 14 tattoos. So, let's start this frustrating debate! After 3-3 1/2 years NOTHING was helping! I finally was discarded from the army( honorable due to hubs and I both bn active duty, deployments etc) when I got out I switched to a local psych, she seemed nice. But also dished out candy like crazy. We went over 2-3 ADD/ADHD tests. Both was very high! So she put me on Ritalin 10mg x 2 a dAy, I became a BITCH! Mood swings hitting me after 2 hr. So she put me on Vyvanse 30 1/day. Noticed immediate results i maxed at 40 b c 50 was too much. Now she no longer accepted my insurance I was told to go In an be honest, so I did that my depression, anxiety, and sleep problem have gone away since I have been off for 3-4 months. YETi have no motivation, no desire, and failed 2 courses. I was only was on Ritalin for2 weeks, Vyvanse for a month. And ive been off the add/ADHD meds for close to 5 months. If they had been around when I was in college, I would have had a much better life and all the tragedies and pain I have experienced stem from the disease I have. So those of you who love to comment on your uneducated opinions, shut up. If you do not know anything, you really are wasting everyone's time. I have been taking add meds for about 5 years. I am a senior citizen and without these drugs I probably would be dead. I know that because i've been a heavy smoker for 10 years and i always said that i'm not an addicted smoker till one of my friends asked me to stop, so i just easily did!! It is supring but possible. Adderall shouldn't be just for people with ADHD or ADD. It should be for anyone who wants it.
