@MQ, agreed. I’d pay more than $20 to read a book-length account of Dolan’s experiences in the SF punk scene and the Berkeley English department.

Off-topic, but I figure I’ll ask this in a Dolan thread where literary-minded eXholes will see it: is Frederick Seidel worth reading? I’ve been seeing press for his new Collected Poems and trying to figure out whether he’s genuine quality or just another Ivy League twat playing transgressive.

All due respect to Dolan. On the pictures he looks like a Celtic cuttroat not particularly old. Oh, yes and he is married or at least was.

I tried to cover myself in crow’s feces etc etc after reading Dolan’s article but it just doesn’t work. I am too much of a freak.

Freak might be a bit imprecise word here, may be sick.

Maybe not a kikе or a dyke or a mike or a T-pike. Or a snoop dog or a rapper of melanctonese variety.

I remember that, when you’d walk down an alley with your teenaged friends and run into another little gang of adolescents, all that tension that’d mount up. I grew up in the city, so usually you wouldn’t even know the other kids! But the tension was there anyway, even though you had no relationship at all…just some innate, mock turf-gang-think (male adolescents never controlled territory in a serious manner, I don’t think). Slightly more serious play. Usually, with the gangs of kids you did know, you’d pick one representative (usually the one with weak social status, or something to prove…the “leaders” of the little boy gangs were cowards), and then they’d fight it out by proxy.
