Of course the Chinese white collar executions are for show. But that’s the point of the article: to keep its restive population in check, the Party has to chop off a few heads. In the US of A, there is no restive population — just fatties, tweakers, religious retards, etc. In China, the goons that run the show face the problem of handling their unruly proletarian masses. Chinese government doesn’t execute corrupt officials, it executes officials who fall out of favor with the existing power structure. Refusal to go quietly when ordered results in this sort of story. Go ahead and think it’s some kind of altruism or for social benefit.

naw, the Chinese are as corrupt as Americans, and probably even more so. The difference is the Americans will make their failures commit suicide the way the Enron boss did while the Chinese will make sure to get a good PR out of it to show the masses they are taking good care of them.
Yes, China is on its way to become the next superpower that’s not a question of if but when. I just hope USA doesn’t start WWIII by the end of 2009 or sooner because there is no other way for capitalism to get out of financial troubles except for declare a major war.
