Let it burn. Like brilliant, flickering, caressing tounges of thermal indulgence. Let it stroke the lives of those affected like a lovers hot, gentle touch. Let the flames of life carry thier screams of painful burning extacy to the souls of those who go before them.

So mean. Poor rich people. Montecito is beautiful. Don't worry; it will all be rebuilt and re-landscaped.

People here insist perching on steep hills and canyon sides. They do not trim vegetation around their homes. Very dry grasses, eucalyptus trees, shake shingle roofs just cry out for a nice burn.

A lightning strike, downed power line, a spark struck from a lawn mower hitting a rock, a car idling in grass so tall that the catalytic converter heats it to ignition, a kid playing with matches, your local pyromaniac -- can set off a fire storm.

Rough justice does get served those who live in steep, high wind areas, who haven't cleared their property and installed slate or terra cotta roofs. This is dry country.

Except when the Pineapple Express hits. In winters with very heavy rains, the same high-perched, high price homes get swept away by mudslides or dumped into the Pacific by coastal erosion.

L.A. is already a killing zone -- slow poisoning by air pollution. Oh, and way overdue for a Big One on the San Andreas.

Wanna come join in the fun?
