As is usual people who don’t know Texans or anything about Texas dismiss it.

Don’t worry Mr. Ames Texans are laughing all the way to the bank with one of the lowest unemployment rates in the US, lowest welfare checks in the US, lowest mortgage failure rates, largest reserves of natural gas and oil outside of Alaska, a ‘right to work’ state so no ripoff unions, a public school system improving & ranked 25th of 50 meaning average but way above California, Washington & Illinois for instance. Let’s not forget the hundreds of national corporations which have moved headquarters to Texas over the last 40 years to escape the NE.

Let’s get a couple things clear, First off, TEXAS could kick Mexicos ASS, if the Fed GOV, would just get out of the way, we wave more 30-30′s, AR-15′s, AK 47′s, .45′s , 38′s and 9mm and shotguns than any other state, or country, this is self eveident to any TEXAN, second, the only reason we take any money from the fed is because they control so much of Texas land and water rights, if not for that we would be 5 times stronger than any other state as well as any other country, the Federal Gov, limits our mining, farmining, ranching and manufacturing. We do not need the UNION, you need us, we have more power plants, and oil, oil the fed will not allow us to drill for.

Look at all these comments from liberal ‘tards simmering with hatred. Makes me laugh. The suggestion of Texas seceding is just one of many increasing signs that people are sick of the socialist era. Even the Left’s own voters are for the most part sick of it and keep voting leftist only for the easy money, or in the case of the immigrants, for the chance to bring in more of their tribe. The Left is ideologically bankrupt. That is why many, many state legislators join the effort to reinvigorate the constitutional right to keep Federal commmands out. Texas and other states will be far better off when their legal rights have been restored.

quite frankly, i was born here, in Texas, in San Antonio, you know the Alamo. Anyways, my concern first and foremost is the national presence that is in Texas where does that go? Ft. Hood is the largest Military installation in the free world. M1 Tank platoons train by shooting from one end of Ft. Hood to the other. That’s neither here nor there, would it remain here and be an “overseas” pcs for soldiers? there is a large military presence in san antonio as well. some of the companies here are national, Both my wife and I work for companies that have headquarters in other states, we also have a network marketing business that is also headquartered in another state. my 17 year old told me today that he isn’t the one thats old enough to vote. What exactly am I voting for we have our own power grid, access to the ocean for trading, snow caps in west texas, twin cities to the north orange groves in south texas and me and my brown brothers stay away from the east side of texas. military history in the middle and WHAT THE FUCK IS JERRY JONES GONNA DO? how can the cowboys be part of the national football league if we aren’t part of a nation? do we stay for the perks. the grass is never greener on the other side, however when you ruin one lawn..you learn how to take care of the one you have now. im not sure if that makes sense but i have to get ready to go talk to people from all over the nation about who they talk too and why they are spending so much.

PS the Navy Seals made those Somali pirates cool….They’re dead.

Hey, are these soundfiles downloadable? I’d like to keep a few of Ames’s KPFK pieces for posterity. But there doesn’t seem to be such an option, or is there?

As for Texas, I can tell you as a non-American that for people around the world, the Lone Star State is an inseparable part of America’s image. The U.S. without Texas would look like a cowboy without his leather pants. Or Levi’s jeans, whatever.

My family has deep roots in Texas. My great, great, great, great uncle died at the Alamo and his wife, Suzanna Dickenson, is considered the first lady of Texas.
We were a republic before we were a state. We joined the U.S. by choice and I deeply resent the way we are treated by the rest of the so-called Union.
The Californians are retarded jerks and the snooty Yankee trash from the East Coast can frankly go straight to Hell.
We have missiles, nuclear weapons and oil. What else do we need? Trash from California and New York? Keep your trash culture and retarded people.

California is a failing collapsing state. It has one of the highest taxes in the union. All the bussinesses in Cali are leaving and setting up in other states because of high tax burden. There won’t be any bussiness left behind (no jobs, less economic growth) Despite spending ~40% of its budget on education Cali is still a high school dropout factory. Cali has some good colleges but it has to import educated people from other states. Californians dont’ even see themselves as Californians at all. There’s nothing that unifies the people at all the state legislators can’t even decide on one single thing. California use to be the poster child of the U.S. but everybody hates it now. Make fun of Texas all you want but it will emerge stronger. Texas along with other midwestern states is recieving Californians in significant numbers because they decided “fuwk this state”

I lived in Texas for fifteen years. I hate it, with good reason, but I hate it from understanding.

Ames hates it from ignorance. As others have pointed out, Texas has a very strong economy. In many ways it’s better than California (my current residence, and an all around nice place). Almost everything in this article was a stereotype and almost nothing was right.

Hate Texas because it’s where some of the most powerful and dangerous people on the Right are from. Hate it because it’s hot and flat and unpleasant. Hate it because it’s arrogant. Hate it because the youth are partying drunkards and self righteous to boot.

Just don’t hate it because you think it’s a backwater. It’s urban, and powerful. It’s dangerous.

Oh, and it has kick-ass barbecue. That alone is worth keeping it in the Union.

Our government should give Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California back to their legitimate owner, the United States of Mexico. Mexico already de facto controls these areas after their invasion of the last few decades, and thus have another claim to it through right of conquest.

A much stronger claim than the flimsy financial deals Washington bases its own on, signed only by coercion and more than a hundred years ago.
