It’s funny, really, because this is the same scenario as the french “muslim” (read: arab) riots: urban youths are tired of their boring grey closed ghettoes and wander around looking for trouble, then one day the cops crack a skull and suddenly all those kids find a new hobby: burning cars and throwing rocks at the pigs, using rap lyrics as their battle anthems and generally trying to pretend they’re in ’68 Chicago.
Cue the media talking about muslim unrest and the government looking for radical islamist ties (even the intelligence services had to admit it was pure bullshit eventually, too bad people have a short attention span)
Then the cops get twitchy and shoot/run over/beat up another kid for smoking a joint and resisting arrest, and the streets flare up again. Then the government sends more cops to harass more kids, etc.

What’s hilarious is that everybody, especially in eastern europe, is still using those riots as proof that “muslim” “immigrants” are disgusting scum hellbound on making Eurabia a reality and imposing their barbaric Shariah laws upon us, when it should be clear by now the only real difference with our own slum-boys is the tan.

Mark, I am not sure if you read the comments, but please write a book about Russia. Don’t forget to distribute it in New Zealand though, locals get brainwashed by American cold war propaganda often enough. As a result opinions like in comment #3 are common in this small town.

What is the half-life (239Pu or 235U) of a Sarov snapper? Do NRO satellites detect snapper emissions when the target city is, as reported, ‘closed’? Do radioactive snappers come across like yellow Penskewagens full of rotting mackeral, or (because Sarov is closed) are they as lip-smackin’ good as fried peanut butter and banana sammiches?

I (a stupid American) was in Sarov in 1996 with the 2nd group of Americans to ever be there, or so they told me. It seemed like a regular Russian town to me. Except its less poor, the sky would unexpectedly light up at night, and all our emails we’re strictly monitored.

I couldn’t find the eXile book at the big NY Barnes & Noble…sad. I don’t know if you can mass sell another memoir in this shitty market, but I stand by saying Ames’ shit, especially in the eXile book, is the best autobiographical writing. It’d be too bad if Ames didn’t write more kosher autobiography.
