What the hell is the target audience for I Love You, Man anyways? Gay men with a straight fetish? No straight guy is going to go anywhere near that, and no chick is going to be tricked into thinking it’s a romantic comedy without another chick on the poster.

And can we please strike the word “Bromance” permanently from the book? Burn all records of it ever existing, using Seth Rogan movies as kindling. That’s the kind of phrase thought up by women who are totally convinced that deep down, all men really want to act like women and hold hands and cry and talk about our feelings but SOCIETY keeps them from doing so.

Sorry, ladies. We don’t. We really, really don’t.

I’m actually shocked that their IS an Eileen Jones…

My guess was always that the name was a cover Dolan used in an attempt to get some freelance work writing movie reviews by playing the pussy-card.

Maybe it is still is… and Dolan just has a wispy timbre. H@T!1

BUT the 81 people in this movie fulfill a similar function to the 36 tzaddikim of rabbinic tradition. The tradition holds that these 36 righteous men, anonymous among us at all times, keep God from destroying the world. Or am I reading too much into a Nicholas Cage vehicle?

It’s always a weird experience hearing somebody you’ve only ever read … because they never can match the voice you’ve made up in your head for them.

Eileen just doesn’t sound as acerbic (dare I say “snarky”?) as I would have imagined … more like a cheerfully cynical university professor you might meet in her office.

She doesn’t make ALL movies sound like shit, just the dreck she ends up having to review; she’s been enthusiastic about loads of great, mostly older movies including Martin, Point Blank and Screwball comedies.

That said, it’d be nice to see her occasionally doing some appreciations of some of the stuff she actually likes and point us in the direction of some good dvds instead of just warning us away from bad films, important though this is. How about some appreciations of old Lee Marvin, Cary Grant or Jeff Bridges flicks? Although I suppose unabashed enthusiasm goes against the ethos of this site.

That little kid looks like he has some weird white text tattooed onto his chin. Are those the numbers that predict disaster? Because if they are, it’s pretty damn cool. Like having a map showing where the last bit of dry land is tattooed on some young girl.
