This book is amazing. Taibbi's good, but Ames really steals the show in a populistly niche way, through sheer hatred of his immediate peers. This book messed me up, and I probably lost friends...instead of playing nice with people in my life, I masochistically veered toward the opposite, out of spite, vanity and spleen. It's like the exact opposite of a self-help book.

This is a classic of misanthropy, though, and the misanthropy alienates idiots, which messes up the brand evangelism, which is why The Exile crew are amongst the few geniuses not rich. They'll be immortal, but in general, they're another literary genius sob story about targeting the hotpoints of your idiot culture and saying things that are true just because you hate your culture, laughing all the way. Then your culture hates you.

I can offer some testimony in favor of the eXile book. I got it used from an online retailer last year and it became my dear, dear, companion for a while. The book isn't an anthology of eXile articles but is instead the story of the eXile and of Mark Ames getting to Russia, plus events and interesting incidents.... Let's see, there's the Hungry Duck progressive happy hour story, with the eXile's designated club reporter, who went missing and died of an incurable disease after using his credential's to get laid over and over in Moscow--as well as sharing in the doing of lots and lots of drugs.

Then there's the "Our God is Speed" section, as well as the explanation of why exactly with the White God Factor in action, people chose to go with beautiful Russian women as opposed to American expats who were less remarkable...

And a guy getting a horse semen pie in the face. That after a minor miracle happens and a letter from said person (the same person, right?) actually gets through the mail system arriving at the eXile, causing people to tremble in fear....because the mail carriers actually got it together enough to deliver something.

"Skin Plow", the story of the worst scabies in human history....Norwegian scabies afflicting Mark Ames gotten in the Baltics and brought back home that needed treatment with tar to get rid of, after burrowing inside of the ass.
