www.vvdailypress.com -- Town officials have shut down a firm that had been processing partially treated human waste — without permits, safeguards or odor controls in place, authorities said Friday.For the past week, ERC West has apparently been illegally treating sewage sludge at a property at 19378 Central Road in north Apple Valley, according to officials.The town shut down the operation Thursday afternoon, after fielding complaints from citizens about horrible smells coming from the site and potential health hazards.“The operation of this business violated a multitude of town, county and state laws,” said Lori Lamson, assistant director of community development, in an e-mail to town management. “The owner had a few excuses, but ultimately knew he had been caught and is in violation.”
