Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit blogging!
I’ll kick things off: strategically speaking, it probably would have been better to just let him die of kidney failure or whatever unglamorous chronic disease was eating him.
Think about the WN article on the Shining Path leader: humiliating him dressed as a bumble bee was a lot more effective than publicly executing him.

I hate to be the dick that says it, but that picture’s a fake, and I’m a little surprised that you folks of all people wouldn’t recognize it as being a forgery. The color of the mouth and beard area is a different skin tone, with a different level of focus and resolution, and the mouth and beard region have distinctive feathering around them. Not saying it wasn’t Bin Laden, I’m quite sure it was. But was he really killed? Perhaps they got him out alive and the spooks are wiring him up at this very moment for some intel-gathering sessions before his eventual burial at sea?

The American people are quite confused just now. For 10 years they were led to believe that we are at “war” with something called “al Qaeda,” which conveniently made a diffuse jihadist, anti-American sentiment sound like some kind of sovereign state. The death of bin Laden offers a opportunity to finally explain to the American people that terrorism is better understood as a crime and that is most effectively fought with police actions. The rest of the world (except Israel) understands this, but there will be no “teachable moment.” Obama cannot contest the hysteria created by Bush’s “war” fallacy. Meanwhile, the US media overlords are challenged to at once celebrate the death of the “enemy leader” while they try to explain to Americans that, well, we are still widely hated. The talking heads look so nervous and desperate as they mindlessly rush to preserve the war mentality that Bush/Cheney trained them to dish out.

Yea, they buried his body at sea out of respect for islam.
They knew it was him (in spite of the fact that a person’s looks tend to change when they get shot in the face).
They would NEVER bury him at sea for the reason that mobsters do the same thing: so that it would never be found and they

I keep refreshing this stupid page thinking even Charlie Sheen has managed to opine on Bin Laden’s death, surely Brecher will have by now. But no. No Breacher. Just stupid Koch articles. I’m sick of Koch! Sick of it! I know they are terrorists too! But until Seal Team Six goes in and wastes them in an amazing operation I’m just far too ADD to care.

It sure beats having “conservative” friends who secretly want to pop the champagne cork every time a Democratic politician or women’s clinic doctor gets assassinated by domestic terrorists.
It SHOULD make Americans sick to see crowds of people waving the flag around for this because it’s saying this country should jerk off to the act of bloodthirsty revenge itself rather than killing as a means to an end. People celebrating this are either the idiots thinking Bin Laden is a Bond villain and killing him will make his volcano fortress self destruct, or are flat out jacking off to bloodthirsty murder porn.

Someone should start printing t-shirts that say “I killed Osama bin Laden and all I got was this lousy Presidential Unit Citation”. Seriously, the CMO is out of the question since the names of the recipients are disclosed, and shooting an unarmed man and his old lady – however vile – hardly counts as “valor”. Navy Cross or DSM? Not as high-profile but still rare. That’s pretty much it, folks.
I keep seeing comments about “missed opportunity” to capture the bastard, and just have to laugh. Firstly, there can be no “lawful” order to capture anyone alive at any cost. The guys in the military may not enjoy the same rights us civvies do, but the right to self-defense is universal. So even if the angry beard was tossing old copies of Koran at the assault team, they’d be legally justified to drop him.

It’s odd how Al-Zawahiri has not commented yet on Bin Laden’s death.
Maybe he got tired of being the #2 man in AQ, told JSOC where to find Osama through third party cut-outs, and collected the $25 million reward, which ironically, he will use for future terrorist attacks upon America.
