Dispatch / January 28, 2009

If you’ve ever been in Russia, you’ve no doubt seen the token dead-drunk man, barely stumbling home from work in the middle of winter. You probably thought to yourself: What happens if that guy falls and passes out? Well, here’s your answer: they go on light freeze and emerge with the first thaw.

Check out the Google translation of the Chuvash Interior Ministry’s “Unidentified Corpses” page. But the faces themselves speak the international language of death.

I like the ones where they don’t even seem dead… just a little drunk.

Same thing happens here in Detroit. We need a Death Porn American edition:

“He’s encased in ice, except his legs, which are sticking out like Popsicle sticks,” the caller phoned to tell this reporter.

“Why didn’t your friend call the police?”

“He was trespassing and didn’t want to get in trouble,” the caller replied. As it happens, the caller’s friend is an urban explorer who gets thrills rummaging through and photographing the ruins of Detroit. It turns out that this explorer last week was playing hockey with a group of other explorers on the frozen waters that had collected in the basement of the building. None of the men called the police, the explorer said. They, in fact, continued their hockey game.

    RE: 3. steve
Nothing wrong with that as far as I can see, It’s not like the guy was “dying”, i.e; in need of assistance. He was already dead, nothing to be done for him.
