Never Forget!

www.csmonitor.com -- Amid increased pressure to lift a gag order that was issued by a local Tel Aviv area magistrate court, the court cleared for publication on Thursday accusations that Anat Kam, a 23-year-old internet reporter, had stolen documents while she was serving in the Israeli army's Central Command office. She then provided the material to a senior reporter at Haaretz, Israel's center-left paper of record, who ran several stories based on the documents, an indictment filed against Ms. Kam in January says. The resulting articles included an explosive story by the Haaretz journalist, Uri Blau, who showed that the army used targeted assassinations against wanted Palestinians even when they knew that arrest was possible, in apparent violation of Israeli Supreme Court rulings.

You would think the Israelis would be some of, if not the most, accommodating benevolent people on the earth; given their torrid history of oppression and repeated extermination. Yet, in the alternative news I see a new story everyday covering Israelis murdering Palestinian families or demolishing their homes.

A new holocaust (real this time?) You would think, if they had to direct their ire at anyone, it might be the Germans or the EU for accommodating the supposed holocaust that they went through.

There’s a huge rise of fundamentalist Zionists who regularly attack Palestinians and other Arabs (Along with “infifel” jews), actually. For now, they mostly just do beatings and throw rocks, but being as they’re usually heavily armed, escalation isn’t out of the question.

Of course, the Israeli police do nothing, and the biased media says nary a word about it because they’re not those filthy eye-slam people.

Right, and there was never a Temple of Solomon, Jews are descended from pigs and monkeys, they control the Earth, etc. Too bad for you that lies and blood libel won’t suffice to cement the Arab occupation of Israel. In the time it takes you to mix-and-match your Che Guevara tee to a Yasser Arafat kaffiya scarf, you can read the following myth-busters:

Myth: Israel’s “settlements” in the West Bank are illegal under international law.
Fact: Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention states clearly: “Individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory to the territory of the Occupying Power or to that of any other country, occupied or not, are prohibited, regardless of their motive.” In other words, voluntarily establishing residence in territory gained as a result of war is not illegal, especially in lieu of previous tenants on the land (typical of the Jordan Valley) or where adjacent tenants lack registered title and/or deed to the land under the government(s) that previously administered said territory (namely, the Ottoman Empire, the British Mandate, and Transjordan/Jordan). Georg Cohn, an author of Article 49, explained to the Danish foreign ministry at the time that by this wording, he sought to prevent such acts as Germany’s deportation of its own Jews to slave and extermination camps in Poland and other occupied countries, as well as Germany’s forcible transfer of Germans to portions of Poland and other occupied countries.
The proof of bias is astounding: the UN gives Sudan (ethnic cleansing of Christians and animists), Syria (forced migration of its own citizens), China (forced Han settlement in Tibet), and Croatia (expulsion of Serbs from Krajina) free reign to violate the very letter of the law in Article 49 of 4th GC, whereas the letter of the law is actively spun and manipulated to seemingly incur upon Israel a responsibility to prohibit voluntary Jewish residence in the West Bank – a hallmark of the arbitrary and often racist nature of the application of international law. Furthermore, there is no other sovereign claimant to the West Bank – its previous occupiers were the Ottoman Caliphate and Jordan, of which the latter signed a lasting peace treaty with Israel. Even the Germans have a stronger legal claim to the territory of the former East Prussia than the PLO horse-traders in Ramallah have to the West Bank. In all fairness, it is more appropriate to speak of an Arab occupation of the 3,700-year old Jewish homeland than the inverse, which would be as absurd as speaking of the Congo “occupying” Belgian territory. What constitutes occupation, in lieu of sovereignty and greater population numbers. Are the Jews that returned to Hebron after the Arabs’ 1929 ethnic cleansing of Jews also “occupiers?”

Myth: Jews never lived in Israel/Jews haven’t lived in Israel since the destruction of the Second Temple.
Fact: The Jewish population of Israel between the Umayyid Caliphate and the Crusades reached 300,000 people, before the crusaders massacred virtually every Jewish family in Jerusalem. The Jews of Peki’in in Israel have lived in their village uninterrupted for 2,000 years, since the Romans destroyed the Hasmonean Kingdom of Israel. 1,000 years ago, Shechem/Nablus and Jericho were majority-Jewish towns. The West Bank itself is a shrine to Jewish prophets and heroes who once resided there, such as the Tomb of the Patriarchs. Building a mosque on top of a Jewish shrine does not invalidate the Jewish character or history of the site.
As for the Arabs, anyone who resided in the British Mandate of Palestine in 1947-48 receives “permanent refugee” status and can receive food and living stipends from the UNRWA, whether they arrived in the year 1200 or in 1946. Jewish economic development between the 1920s and 1940s stoked immigration of Arabs from other Arab countries to the area; as FDR commented in 1939, more Arabs came into Palestine since the establishment of the British Mandate than Jews. Some notable Arab clans, like the Nashashibis, trace their history in the area back to Salah ad-Din’s 12th-century defeat of the Crusaders or earlier. Jewish newcomers purchased land from these “effendi” clans: Awni Abdel Hadi sold 7,500 acres of property to Jews, even while he publicly vowed to fight until “Palestine…becomes a graveyard for all the Jews in the country.”

Myth: Israel is the reason that the Arabs/Muslims wage holy war, since Islam is really just a rehashing of the Golden Principle.
Fact: Holy war is a tenet of Islam, enshrined in the verses “Slay the idolaters wherever you find them” [sura 9.5] and “The Day of Resurrection will not arrive until the Moslems make war against the Jews and kill them” [Sahih Bukhari 004.52.176]. Shari’a law lacks the very notion of moral responsibility, as it conflicts with the Qur’anic doctrine of predestination of taqdir, which holds that Allah decides in advance which of us should be burned “through all eternity,” and which shall be seated “in the plenary enjoyment of an everlasting brothel between forty celestial concubines…because He wills it” [Palgrave]. Meanwhile, holy warriors are raised from the dead before the Last Day [suras 2.159 & 3.169] without enduring a sojourn in Hell.
Islam’s relationship to Jews has not changed much over the years: Muhammad violated the law he wrote himself, the Constitution of Medina, by murdering or enslaving all the Jews of Yathrib, while the Armenian chronicles of the 660s describe Muhammad as setting off to conquer Palestine for the “Hagarite” Arabs. For Petraeus, Clinton, or ballet-dancing Rahm Emmanuel to claim that Muslims worldwide murder other Muslims because of Israel is to ignore the Qur’anic worldview entirely.
As an aside, it is funny that Yasser Arafat denied the existence of the Temple of Solomon on the Temple Mount during the 2000 Camp David talks, since the Qur’an also tends to get both established and Biblical history wrong: in the text, Miriam is confused with Mary, so that Moses is Jesus’ uncle; Alexander the Great lived in Abraham’s time, and Saul is confused with Gideon. Something to keep in mind when the PLO decides that a Jewish shrine is built on the site where Ishmael ate falafel with Julius Caesar, etc.

Myth: “The” Jews (that monolithic cabal) control the media/”the money”/the world.
Fact: It’s much easier for Arabs to say, “the Jews control the world,” than to say, “Arabs don’t study very hard in school, and even the Lebanese aren’t particularly successful in business.” Even the great scientists of Arab- and Berber-run Andalusia, like Ibn Gabirol and Maimonides, were Jews, at a period when subjugation and jizya tax-gouging made it clear to any fool that the Jews had no power whatsoever. It’s almost touching that descendants of the Quraysh Arabs, whose social organization depended on pillaged settled Nabataean and Jewish villages, are still sulking about their lack of achievement, in spite of their petrodollar wealth and OPEC’s near-stranglehold on the global economy. When Muslims must pretend that their narrative of a prophet leading his people out of the desert is not a pathetic rehashing of the Moses plot arc, and Christians must ignore the lack of any historical record substantiating Jesus’ biographical details or existence, they have all rallied against the one nation whom they’ve tried so desperately to both masquerade as, and eliminate from the face of the Earth. Funny how you never hear blood libel about Jews from Chinese, or from any other group whose identity is not based on imitating Jews.

I’ve been reading the eXile since 1999. When I read your great investigative piece about the OSCE’s role in fabricating a massacre to justify NATO’s bombardment of Serbia, I remember thinking that it took guts to write that article – the Serbs were the bogeymen of the decade, and plenty of people would refuse to believe that the poor, “too-trusting” Kosovars (read Albanians) might dupe the world into netting them a second homeland, expelling the Serbs from the Serbs’ ancestral homeland. Now I see the eXile copy-pasting the abstract of a story hailing Anat Kam as a “whistleblower,” and I have to wonder whether the OSCE piece was written thanks to your staff’s integrity, or because that’s where the doctrinaire leftist line led at the time.

Anat Kam may have complicated the IDF’s efforts to assassinate Hamas or Islamic Jihad terrorists – which of course automatically makes her a hero to radical leftists, now that Islamic conquest fills the pathological void left by the Baader-Meinhof Gang and the worldwide failure of contrived state-planned economies. But let’s give credit where credit is due: Kam was a serial traitor to Israel, stealing 2,000+ classified military files covering topics like order of battle and operational plans. The theft and distribution of these files jeopardize the safety of everyone in Israel, including the Druze Arabs in Umm al-Fahm and the Galilee, whose communities suffer from attacks by armed West Bank gunmen, who have long despised the Druze for daring to incorporate neo-Platonic reason and free will into Islam.

What some of your readers will find inconceivable is the fact that while Hamas threatens to murder Christian Arabs for apostasy, and the foreign, Quraysh Hashemite tribe running Jordan imposes genuine apartheid on Palestinian Arabs by barring them from holding public office and rescinding their citizenship, Israel manages to remain a multi-ethnic democracy, where 20% of Haifa University’s student body is Arab, over a third of the nurses, physicians, and patients at Rabin Medical Center are Arabs, and Arab Knesset members represent their constituents. An Arab women driving a new Land Rover in Petah Tiqwa turns no heads – neither for her wealth, nor for her gender – and yet you’ll never see that sight in any Gulf Arab country. Anat Kam does no good for them, even if she believes, in her condescending neurosis, that she speaks on their behalf. Your readers, including the one commenter who apparently rejoices at the Holocaust, would be shocked to discover that most Israeli Arabs actually prefer the dignity of a living wage and secure neighborhood over letting their UN-fed cousins wreak havoc and cost them their jobs, or lives. Terrorists are no heroes even in Ramallah: the Second Intifada caused much of the 30% Arab emigration from the West Bank between 1997 and 2007 (based on school enrollment figures), and that plenty of West Bank Arab businessmen could be heard eight years ago at the Allenby Crossing cursing the PA for plotting the violence that destroyed their export profits. Life can surprise you like that, when you leave your ivory towers and have a family to feed.

Since it’s Shoah Remembrance Day in Israel this evening, I’d like to pass on a message to Ames and Levine at the eXile. Maintaining an unctuous concern for what other people think of your nation never spared anyone their lives, whether at the hands of the Chekists, Nazis, or the PLO. Whatever banner you drape yourself in, the crowd will ultimately only see your Jewish identity, and find any pretext to rid itself of you. So take some pride in the only country that will always have your back.
