Check out this awesome 1987 “conspiracy theory” documentary called “America’s Secret Government,” which connects the Iran-Contra scandal to the secret post-WWII lives of Nazi officials in the US, the manufacture of the “communist threat” as a bullshit excuse to expand American business opportunities abroad, blowback from the CIA-led coup against a democratic Iran in 1953 and ponders if it isn’t unreasonable to assume that our own government had a hand in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Other than the whiney Jackson Browne intro, it’s almost hard to believe you’re watching PBS or any other American TV.
American politicians lying, cheating, robbing and conspiring against the American people? You can just hear the tea baggers screaming about this elitist, anti-American propaganda.: “No way man! Not Ollie North! He’s a great patriotic American and host of Fox’s of ‘War Stories.’ He’d would never do something like this! He was lying for our own good.”

Yasha, while there are quite a few Hannity/Limbaugh/Beck/O’reilly loving useful idiots in the Tea parties, there are also quite a few folks in the Tea Party movement who would give Bill Moyers mucho respect for this documentary, because they know he’s telling the truth. This contingent is trying to wake people up and wrest control of the Tea party movement away from Freedomworks, Palin, and the rest of the phony, plutocrat-owned pseudo-opposition. It would behoove to you to take a look at this battle going on right now within the Tea Party movement, and do what you can to support the anti-war/anti-police state/anti-plutocracy factions within it. A good place to start is http://www.prisonplanet.com. You’d be surprised how many Tea party types actually agree with you wholeheartedly on some very serious issues.

Thank for posting this and highlighting this video. I have never seen it. And thankfully, our internet can still deliver such useful civic information.
Can one imagine seeing this same video today on any network?

I don’t see anything in this video that is conspiracy theory, most of it is well documented facts straight from the mouths of those who perpetrated the actual, real-life Iran-Contra arms-for-hostages conspiracy. Moyers does a great job explaining the origins of the covert-operations arm of our government and how it quickly grew in power and spun out of civilian control. Unfortunately the whole episode has largely vanished down the memory hole, so these same assholes are still up to the same old shenanigans. Instead of the “Enterprise” Moyers describes running black-ops all over the world, now we call it Blackwater(excuse me, Xe Enterprises).

Yasha -“You can just hear the tea baggers screaming about this elitist, anti-American propaganda”.I have no doubt that your statement is correct, but to what extent. How many “tea-baggers” do you know? 100? 10,000? 25,000? Even if you intimately knew 1000 of them, you wouldn’t even know but a few percentage points of the total. And at the same time you speak truth about the corruption and lies pervading this petri dish we call a planet, you throw in some establishment rhetoric and one liner bullshit -teabaggers.In one minute you speak the truth about the power structures and in the same breath you indulge in their own psyop. I know that the misled and propaganda deluded masses are vast and far reaching, but they aren’t confined to or even predominately composed of the Teaparty movement. Rather, they are just one more slice of a dog shit pie. Otherwise, cool video.

Did I read right? There is a fight amongst the teabaggers to try and wrest the teabag movement away from pro Sarah Palin wing? We have not seen this kind of kook movement infighting since Adolf Hitler vs Gregor Strasser!

Is anyone else freaked out by Jackson Browne as much as I am?

Bill Moyers, also famous(actually swept under the rug) for his Gay Witch Hunts with legendary Homo/Psychonaut J. Edgar Hoover while working with the LBJ administration.
