it’s kind of sad that in order to find someone who agrees with you about afghanistan you have to travel into the recesses of the ancap loony bin. great interview though.

Antiwar.com was founded by Justin Raimondo who is a fellow traveler of Lew Rockwell and Ron Paul and that whole paleo-libertarian-conservative crowd.

The host was annoying, but a good interview just the same.
While oil is certainly a huge motivator for the US and the political right’s meddling in former territories of the Soviet Union, I don’t even think you need to go that far. They’d do it all just to spite the Kremlin. Most of these people haven’t updated their opinions since the peak of the Cold War and would give at least tacit support to Chechnya through human rights just to be a thorn in Moscow’s side. You could say the same about Georgia, even though in that case the ties to oil production are a lot more clear. These are the same people that shit all over long standing Western European allies just because they wouldn’t fall in line with our whims. It’s naive to think they wouldn’t choose sides out of little more than malice. That’s a recurring theme with the neocons, their malice and greed outweighs their intelligence, even outweighs common sense. It’s the same thing that drives them to try and score the defense industry contracts to build a missile sheild in Poland and the Czech Republic….
