S.H.A.M.E. Releases Profile on Jeffrey Goldberg: Prison Camp Guard, War Booster & Israeli Apartheid Apologist

We launched S.H.A.M.E. to expose propagandists, reveal journalistic fraud, and make it a little harder for hacks and shills to manipulate you with impunity, which they continue doing no matter how disastrous their consequences. From the start, we set out to provide readers with simple, merciless and fun to read dossiers on a range of media shills who have degraded our democracy and our world—a handy guide to help you navigate the PR-polluted media. The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg fits that mandate perfectly. While Conventional Wisdom is slowly coming to terms with Goldberg’s record of warmongering, deception and violence, S.H.A.M.E. allows readers and others in the media a simple cheat-sheet so that you don’t have to waste your time looking everything up from scratch—and to prevent you from mistaking Jeffrey Goldberg for a credible journalist.

As the latest S.H.A.M.E. Profile demonstrates, Jeffrey Goldberg is a propagandist of the worst, most disastrous kind. For the past ten years-plus, he has peddled blatantly false war propaganda, fronted for the military-industrial machine and played a key PR role in drumming up unfounded terrorist fears in order to push America into war with Iraq. Instead of being held accountable for his failures and his lies, he’s seen nothing but soaring praise and personal profits.

Our profile also makes clear that there’s a dark consistency in Goldberg’s fondness for violence, warmongering and lying to cover up crimes going back to his days as a camp guard at an Israeli detention center for Palestinians. Goldberg reinvented himself from doughy college dropout into manly Israeli camp guard, boasting, “I never hit a Palestinian who wasn’t already hitting me.” Goldberg also admits he “lied” to cover up human rights abuses committed by his fellow Israeli camp guard friends.

Another important yet little-known fact: In the early 1990s, Goldberg explicitly identified himself as an Israeli participating in the “armed administration” of Palestinians in the occupied territories, giving new meaning to a recent New York Times’ description of Goldberg as “Netanyahu’s faithful stenographer.” Goldberg has thus far refused to answer questions over whether or not he is an Israeli citizen, or if he took an oath of loyalty to Israel while serving in the IDF (Goldberg claims he can’t remember); now that he is on record in 1991 identifying himself as an Israeli, it is up to Goldberg to disprove that he is a dual citizen of Israel.

S.H.A.M.E. may not be able to get Goldberg fired or held accountable for his journalistic malpractice—not yet, anyway—but we can make sure that there is a permanent record available to the public of Goldberg’s many violations of the public trust, and the damage he’s caused; and by providing this record, to make it easier for readers and other journalists to quickly call up the steaming pile of racist, warmongering gefilte shit that is Jeffrey Goldberg’s career.

If I were a photographer, I would dress Yasha, Mark and Mike up as fierce Maccabees. Mike would be wearing some kind of animal pelt and holding a club. Yasha would be in scale mail with one of those helmet things. Mark would be really, well, tall and buff… and hairy. :0)

Hate to say it, but if you could keep the *top-layer* profile text really dry, invective-free, and sort of neuter, then this stuff would probably get incorporated into wikipedia articles, get used by lazy journalists and local news teams, etc. You’re well sourced enough that I bet you’d totally get away with that, if you haven’t blown your chance already.
That’s a tall order– basically asking y’all to swallow your pride for the greater good. It’s an almost unAmerican idea. But it might inject your findings into the popular news cycle much more quickly and thoroughly.
You could even have a second discussion page to follow the “square” top layer and incorporate all of your juicy digs into that. Keeping the EncyclopediaDramatica tone out of the page people reach from google would make it way easier for the lamestream media to echo your findings.
Basically I want to hear about this stuff on CNN, and I worry that you’re too hip to let it happen.

Also, I love it when commenters said about that Freakonomics guy that all SHAME did was accuse him of having Republican beliefs. I thought that one of the major goals of SHAME was to out the foxes in the progressive henhouse. Like I said, my Socialist mother loved the guy till I linked the profile.
