Slate’s David Weigel is one of the few libertarian media figures who at least has had the courtesy to disclose, on occasion, his past relationships with Koch-funded outfits (Institute for Humane Studies, Reason Magazine…). But half-disclosures can be deceiving. The record shows that every time the Koch-machine finds itself under media scrutiny, and its unnerving influence on our political and economic culture is exposed, you can count on David Weigel to rush to the scene and declare, “Nothing to see here folks. Boring. Seen it all before. Don’t have a cow.” He did it again yesterday, in reaction to the Mother Jones exclusives on the Koch Brothers’ secretive oligarch-gathering in Vail. Weigel’s response? “No surprise.”

Great news about Obama’s new pick to head the CEA, Alan Krueger, the so-called “labor economist.” Yeah, he labors all right: He labors hard to be Larry Summers’ tennis partner. And believe you me, being Larry Summers’ tennis partner is like being a made man in the mob. Krueger understood who butters his bread in this town: Larry Summers, the same guy who took everyone else’s bread and butter, not just in America but the world over.

Exiled Online editor Mark Ames went on MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan Show Thursday to respond to Russian strongman Vladimir Putin’s latest trash-talking smackdown against America, in which Putin accused the world’s only superpower and leader of the free world of, “sponging off the global economy like a parasite.”

Ames is appalled at the shame of living through America’s bottomless decline: “A Russian autocrat calling America a ‘parasite’–like he’s some John Galtsky, and we Americans are just sponging off Mother Russia?! Which, okay to be fair, technically we are–but still.” (more…)

Khloe Kardashian, Donna D’Errico of Baywatch, former Miss USA Susie Castillo, Playboy nude-model Tammy Banovac, Jesse Ventura and Alex Jones: to most Americans, a list of names like that sounds like the punch-line to an elaborate pop culture comedy routine. Or maybe the cast of another John Waters kitsch-flick, or another one of those degrading reality shows. If that’s what you’re thinking, then you’re clearly one of the brainwashed “sheeple.” You can’t appreciate that Khloe Kardashian & Friends are modern-day American Martyrs– victims of TSA airport gate screener “Nazis,” a jack-booted “Gestapo” who “gate-rape” and “genocide” Americans on a daily basis. Khloe, Donna, Tammy and Susie aren’t sheeple, though–they’re our modern-day George Washingtons and Thomas Jeffersons fighting for our constitutional liberties, and some day our children may owe their freedom to Khloe Kardashian’s Army.
